What makes these chicken lettuce wraps healthy?

Ground chicken is very low in fat and a great meat when you are watching your meat intake. With the asian inspired sauce that is low in sodium and has no added sugar this dish is very healthy and will satisfy any craving for asian food without the sugar and salt.

  • water chestnuts (optional)
  • garlic cloves
  • coconut aminos
  • rice vinegar
  • fresh ginger (or ground ginger)
  • almond butter (or peanut butter)
  • raw honey
  • black pepper
  • salt

What are coconut aminos? What can I use instead if I do not have them?

Coconut aminos is a sauce made from coconut palm and sea salt (Its soy, wheat and gluten free) making it a healthy alternative to soy sauce for those with allergies or food sensitivities. 
If desired you can use soy sauce instead of coconut aminos.  

How to make the asian sauce?

SUPER EASY! In the past sauces have intimidated me. But this one is as simple as throwing all the sauce ingredients together in a food processor or high speed blender and blending until smooth. 

How to make these healthy chicken lettuce wraps?

Just throw everything into a slow cooker or crock pot and let it cook for you. No mess, no fuss and a delicious home-cooked dinner!


What can I use instead of ground chicken?

You can use ground beef, pork or turkey instead if you do not have ground chicken. 

What to serve with lettuce wraps?

Serve with a fruit salad or some street corn! You could also grill up some veg or make some hot wings for a party!

How to store chicken lettuce wraps?

After cooking store in fridge in an airtight container for 3-5 days.

Do I need a slow cooker for this recipe?

You can use a slow cooker or crock pot for this recipe. It is designed to be fast and easy so you do not have to take the time to cook all night.

Can I use an instant pot instead?

Healthy chicken lettuce wraps better then p.f changs chicken lettuce wraps. The chicken filling has amazing asian inspired flavors and goes great as an appetizer or main dish.

  • Slow Cooker or Crock Pot


  • 2 lb ground chicken
  • 2 cups carrots shredded
  • 2 cups mushrooms diced
  • 8 oz water chestnuts (Optional) chopped

Sauce (Blend Together):

  • 5 cloves garlic
  • 3 tsp sesame oil
  • 1/2 cup coconut aminos if desired sub soy sauce
  • 1 tbsp rice vinegar
  • 1 tbsp fresh ginger
  • 1 tbsp almond butter if desired sub peanut butter
  • 1 tbsp raw honey
  • 1/4 tsp black pepper
  • 1/2 tsp salt


  • Add sauce ingredients into a blender and blend until smooth.
  • Add chicken and veggies into slow cooker and pour sauce over.
  • Cook on low 6-8 hours.
  • It's ready to serve, enjoy!

Freezer Directions:

  • Label Freezer bag with recipe name, cooking from frozen directions and expiration date (todays date plus three months).
  • Add sauce ingredients into a blender and blend until smooth.
  • Add all ingredients to labeled gallon freezer bag.
  • Store in freezer for up to three months.

Cooking from Frozen Directions:

  • Thaw overnight in fridge or in the morning in some warm water (meal may not be 100% thawed but that is ok).
  • Add freezer bag contents into slow cooker.
  • Cook on low 6-8 hours. (May need an extra 30 minutes if completely frozen when placed in slow cooker).
  • It's ready to serve, enjoy!


  • Water chestnuts provide a great crunch but if you want try skipping them and adding fresh cashews as a garnish. 
  • You can use turkey or ground beef instead of chicken if desired. 
  • Serve with some sweet and sour sauce on the side.
  • Great app or main dish!
