Popular Substitutions and Additions

Substitutions:

  • Tamari Sauce: Tamari sauce is a gluten-free alternative to soy sauce, and can be used in place of coconut aminos. It has a similar savory flavor to soy sauce, but without the gluten. If you’re avoiding soy, coconut aminos is your best option because tamari still contains soy.
  • Whole 30 Popcorn Chicken: If you’re going the boneless route, popcorn chicken is a good substitute – just ensure it’s Whole 30-compliant!
  • Cauliflower: Calling all plant-based folk! Cauliflower is great for our vegetarian and vegan friends, but it’s a hearty alternative for chicken for carnivores, too.

Additions:

  • Red Pepper Flakes: Add an extra kick with red pepper flakes in the sauce!
  • Canned Chipotle Peppers with Adobo: Increase depth and smokiness with this addition.
