Popular Substitutions and Additions

Substitutions:

  • Chuck Roast: Substitute chuck roast with 2-3 lbs of beef brisket. Brisket provides a similarly rich and flavorful result when cooked slowly.
  • Chicken Broth: Substitute chicken broth with ½ cup of beef broth. Beef broth will enhance the beefy flavor of the pot roast.
  • Pepperoncini Peppers: Substitute pepperoncini peppers with 8 slices of pickled jalapeños. They offer a similar tangy and slightly spicy kick.

Additions:

  • Carrots: Add 1 cup of sliced carrots to the pot roast. Carrots add natural sweetness and texture to the dish while providing extra nutrients. They freeze well and won’t affect the overall flavor.
  • Potatoes: Add 2 cups of diced potatoes to the pot roast. Potatoes absorb the flavors of the broth and spices while adding heartiness to the meal. Ensure they’re diced small enough to freeze well.
  • Tomatoes: Add 1 cup of diced tomatoes (fresh or canned) to the pot roast. Tomatoes introduce a touch of acidity and freshness to balance the richness of the dish. They freeze well and add depth to the flavor profile.
