Popular Substitutions and Additions

Substitutions:

  • Sweet Potatoes: Swap out the carrots for sweet potatoes, which will add a similar sweet depth and creamy texture.
  • Raisins or Dried Cranberries: Substitute the dried apricots for raisins or dried cranberries for a different type of sweetness that still complements the spices well.

Additions:

  • Chickpeas: Add a cup of canned (rinsed and drained) chickpeas for extra protein and texture variation. They’re a great addition because they absorb the flavors of the spices well.
  • Spinach: At the end of the cooking process, incorporate a couple handfuls of fresh spinach. This will add both color and nutrients to an already beautiful dish.
  • Slivered almonds: Sprinkle a handful of slivered almonds on top before serving for added crunch and flavor.

How to Reheat and Store Moroccan Tagine Chicken

Best way to Store Spicy Moroccan Chicken Freezer Meal

Spicy Chicken Tagine Freezer Meal is best stored in the refrigerator in an airtight container. Make sure to allow your recipe to cool to room temperature before storing.

How long will Chicken Tagine last in the fridge?

When you have properly allowed your leftover Tagine chicken to cool, and are using proper storage devices, your leftovers will remain fresh for 3-5 days. If you are needing a longer shelf life for your leftovers, consider freezer storage.

Can I Freeze Make-Ahead Chicken Tagine?

Make-Ahead Chicken Tagine is a part of our make-ahead freezer meal collection, which means that it is frozen raw and then cooked from frozen. To do so, label your gallon freezer bag, then add all ingredients, except day of cooking ingredients, to your gallon freezer bag. Then remove excess air and seal. Your meal will remain fresh in the freezer for up to 3 months.

We recommend consuming leftovers within the recommended 3 to 5 day time frame, because freezing it once cooked and reheating it again will not yield attractive texture or flavor. You are certainly able to freeze leftovers, just do so knowing the second round will not be as scrumptious.

How to Reheat Moroccan Spiced Chicken Tagine?

This recipe is repeatable in the microwave, on the stovetop or in the oven, but our personal favorite is in the stovetop. Just add a tinge of water or broth so it doesn’t stick and dry out in the reheating process. When you go to reheat on the stovetop, place a skillet on medium heat, and stir occasionally until heated through.
